Supporting Recovering St. Thomas Island
November 17, 2017
As part of Glen Eagle’s recurring quarterly service project the team collected durable food products to ship to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, which is still recovering from the immense damage inflicted by the recent hurricane. Glen Eagle was proud to begin their collection in response to the College of St. Elizabeth’s own campaign to encourage others to donate to the recovering island during this Thanksgiving season.
Participating in Annual Community Service Day
August 08, 2017
Glen Eagle held its annual Community Service Day earlier this summer, donating to those in need and supporting the local community. Through the collection and donation of goods as well as an active volunteering role, Glen Eagle was able to give back not through one institution, but three separate organizations dedicated to the local area.
In the morning, Glen Eagle collected non-perishable goods for Mount Carmel Guild of Trenton, New Jersey’s Emergency Assistance Program. This program provides bags of food five days a week to almost 8,000 families a year. Many of those receiving the emergency food are homeless, disabled or unable to secure steady employment. In addition to providing food, Mount Carmel Guild of Trenton distributes a number of other necessities such as personal hygiene, childcare and clothing items.
In addition, Glen Eagle spent the morning collecting donated books for Trenton Catholic Academy. Located in Hamilton, this regional PreK-12 school for the Diocese of Trenton prepares students for college and life after education through a demanding preparatory curriculum. The books collected and donated by Glen Eagle will be used to provide a free library for students as well as their families.
In the afternoon, Glen Eagle traveled to Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve to help Friends of Princeton Open Space with the removal of invasive species and eventual replanting of those native to the area. Founded in 1969, Friends of Princeton Open Space’s mission is to, among other things, preserve open space, protect natural resources and provide environmental education. To date, it has aided in establishing more than 1,000 acres of parkland and a network of tails so vast that it nearly encircles Princeton. By sponsoring community activities such as educational workshops and nature walks, as well as advocating for governmental actions to protect the environment, Friends of Princeton Open Space aims to preserve the beauty of the local community for future generations.
